I just installed a used / rebuilt motor into my truck and when I am trying to start the truck it ran for a little bit and then died. Now when I try to restart it, it backfirs thru the carb. I need to check the distributor and see if it is lined up correct. What position does the rotor need to be facing when at TDC? I can not find my book now that I have moved, it is burried in the garage.
Thanks for the info. I just thought it was weird cause it was running just running rough and now coughs up thru carb. I will doule check the location of the rotor, I believe it was pointing towards the passenger side the other day....I will get it lined up. Thanks again for the feedback.
if it is coughing through the carb while your trying to start the truck you most likely have the distributor 180* off. it does not hurt to try rotate it 180*. if it don't fire up you could always rotate it back.
