Default Do I need an EGR system?

I have an 89 d100 with a 318. I bought an edelbrock manifold second hand and everything fits into it, except the EGR on the drivers side of the manifold.

There isn't a port for the EGR like the stock manifold. I don't know if this is a stupid question, but do I need the EGR? There is a spot to mount it on the manifold, just no port.

Would it work just simply bolt it in place? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes you need the EGR. Without it you will have problems with the spark knock in the engine. It lowers the combustion temperatures by reducing peak flame in the cylinders.
