Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and timing is about all there is to it. You might throw a can of Seafoam in the tank to clean the fuel system if it hasn't been done lately.

Unfortunately there is very little you can do in that department without spending massive amounts of money and changing everything. The computer controls everything and these early ones are set and can not be tweaked. Depending upon where you live you might be able to do some exhaust work to help it breathe.

replacing the plenum plate and gasket might free up some power that is lost when plenum gasket blows. if you replace the plenum plate and gasket it then may be a good idea to then replace the cat and O2 sensor. from what i have read the magnum engine seem to like ngk o2 sensors

Yeah I've researched depending on the profile of the lobes I can cam it without flashing the computer and while in the block I'd do valve springs and lifters these magnum engines have rocker shafts right? Where the arms are on a whole shaft bolted to the head and plus I can't decide is flowmaster 40 series or the delta 40's would be better and I was thinkin 3.73's in the rear is that too big?

I know with my 85 360 the timing chain is good for around 60k miles.

Have you checked your timing chain for slack? Pull the dis cap and put a wrench on the crank....turn the crank back and forth....the rotor on the dis should move with the crank.
