I'd bet the 3250 on your axle is the weight rating.

Is that for the axle or truck? I thought that the weight was supported by the frame and leaf springs. Anyone know for sure?

Everything from the ground to the frame supports the weight. And everything has its own designed weight limit. That 3250 may very well be the designed load limit of the rear axle itself in this application. Look at the door sticker, if you can still read it. It separates the over all load carrying ability of the truck into front and rear load.

My door sticker is toast and the Equipment Identification sticker under the hood is barely readable. It does mention a "3300 front axle" whatever that is, maybe weight limit which is real close to 3250. There is no actual front axle since it is 2WD. On the Equip. ID sticker it also mentions the 3.5 axle ratio and 8.25 rear axle.I did find the Body Code Plate under the cowl. I don't know what all the codes are or how to decipher them though.
