crank bad?

well i took my bearings to napa...they said they was wore .004

i went home put the bearing into the crank, i had .24 feeler gayge between the bearing an crank..

is there another way to do this?

Go back to napa and buy a package of plastigage strips if you are measuring bearing clearances. If you are measuring end play the feeler gauge is the correct measuring device or a dial indicator. Be sure the bearing caps are in the right places. They are numbered. Also be sure the bearings go back in the same spots if the were removed.

ok well i got 1.178 on the mic...it calls for 1.05?

If the crank is in good shape I would buy a new bearing. Just the set of two that has the thrust bearing built in. An 1/8' out of spec will wear on your timing set.

i put 3k miles on a new timing set an when i took it off it had soooo much play it wasnt funny..i mean the crank looks flawless...just the thrsut bearing part is not goood lol...

maybe oversize bearings? i need to last another year at least

I can't believe I missed this. It just hit me when I reread your specs. What are you reading that gives you 1.178 inches. That surely cannot be the crankshaft endplay. Allowable end play is only 0.002-0.0095 inches depending on what engine you are working on.

i meaured the space between where the thrust bearing sits to gt the 1.178...i had oh id say .024-.025 (my feeler gauge went to .024) end play

i can retry later with better gauges
