a lot of vacuum and very high idle
 

hi, this is my first time on this but i have a 1993 dodge power ram 150(w150) it has a idle at about 1500 rpms but my computer is thinking its running at 800 rpms. i also have a extreme amount of vacuum in the engine when its running i cant even pull the oil fill cap off?????? the truck is started to have a really hard time to start when it is warm so i thinking that i have some kind of leak that is letting air into the intake manifold and getting past the throttle body. i am really stumped on this because i jus bought this truck. i think but im not sure that i have a bad gasket somewhere but i dont know were it could be. and i was looking at my injectors today and they are very lose like i can turn them so the air might be getting in the engine but it doesnt explain why i have so much vacuum in the motor.

You may have a bad PCV valve. I would start there.

i have already replaced the pcv valve

i am thinking that i might have a bad egr valve?

if you are having a difficult time pulling your oil cap off while it is running then you may have a blown plenum gasket. i have never heard of it happening before but it might be possible.

so all those things i dont have wrong i dont have a cat my oil if fine never burns a drop of oil but hey im ganna try it anyways whats the worse that can happen?. i am also learning that i might have a bad intake manifold gasket because i spayed carb cleaner around were the intake manifold meets the heads the idle drops but im going to replace both of the gaskets anyways

if you think you have a bad intake gasket then that would be the perfect time to fix the plenum problem while you are there. it is only another $100 and another couple hours of labor. there is a guy on ebay that sell the plenum pans cheaper than hughesengines.com.

so do you think that i should order a new pan too???

if your truck has the stock steel one then yes. you can stick one of those extending magnets down there to check. from what i have read the intake is aluminum and the stock plate is steel and the heat and cool at different rates which is what causes the gasket to blow. then there is also people that say the stock plenum plate bolts are just a bit too long and can not pull the plate tight enough to the intake manifold. the aluminum plenum pan take care of both possible problems at once since the aluminum pan is a thinker than the steel one.
