Default Charging system wiring 1984 dodge d150

I am currently rebuilding a 1984 dodge d150 from the ground up and i'm now to the point of wiring it up I have no harness to go by and can't find one around town at any junk yards. I have everything working but the charging system. I am confused how the VR(voltage regulator) interfaces into the alternator. I have a hot running to the alternator from the battery and a ground on the alternator. I have 2 more connections on the alternator that are suppose to interface into the VR. Correct me if i'm wrong but do all I need to do is take one side of the VR to 1 of the connections on the alternator which should be an ignition voltage and then take the other connection to ground?

Can someone help provide some clearity to this issue I am having.
