Truck won't crank
Hey...
I have a 1990 dodge power ram w150 four wheel drive and won't crank...dome light in truck comes on and head lights comes on n starter will engage when jumping the solnoid but won't start do to the fuel pump not turning on...radio doesnt come on when key is turned to on or accessory...changed the ignition switch on the inside steering colume n all fuses that is located under the dash r good...i was wondering if could get some help on this bc well its my daily driver n just need my truck up n running...thanks mike |
sounds like a bad fusible link. i think you should be looking at the orange fusible link that is connected to a red wire. the fusible links are on the drivers side fender under the hood.

Thank u very much not much a electrical kind of guy but what is a fusible link?
|
Basically a wire that, when overloaded, will pop like a fuse, rather than burn like a regular wire.
|
it is a more forgiving fuse. it won't just pop when overload for short periods of time but if overloaded for longer periods of time it should blow before your wires starts melting.

I would like to say thanks for the explanation n the help n my orange wire was undone it must have been popped before bc there was a butt connector on it but guess this time the butt connector came undone...connected it back together n started up like a champ...thanks again much appreciated!

You need to replace the fuseable link...I've seen it many times where it has burnt and someone simply reconnects the 2 burnt sections. It only costs a couple bucks and will keep you from having your truck go up in flames.

yes to all, I have seen too many nice old Dodges on the side of the road in flames because someone butt connected the fuseable link after it popped. At least put a 40a fuse in line till you get a new link.
