Question VIN# only shows 13 characters

I have a 1974 Dodge D10 2 wheel drive short bed w a 318 and I'm trying to identify if the truck was changed at some point or is still as it was manufactured. The truck was given to me as a gift but I don't have any paper work or registration that I could refer to please help.

Won't do you much good without a title.

Prior to 1981 there was no set or regulated format for VIN numbers so different manufacturers used different systems, and the numbers varied between 11 and 17 characters. Your VIN is therefore not unusual. There's plenty of sites online dedicated to decoding VIN numbers (even the pre-81's), so a quick google search should find you what you need. But these two should at least get you started.

This one lets you enter your VIN and decodes it for you

This one has you go through digit by digit and decode it yourself

Good luck!

Ok thats helpful thanks. I also have a 1978 PowerWagon and it has 13 digits but now your info helped me think differently and I'm way less puzzled having 2 trucks same thing.

Titles can be had just have to spend a little money and time. Previous title holders have passed away.

What's your VIN? I hadn't tried 13 number VIN, but with usual ones it works fine. https://vinnumber.net/makes/dodge/
