Axles mid 70's

I have a mid 70's Dodge 1/2 ton 4*4 with Dana axles.

Are they Dana 44 or Dana 60. Or could they be either. I think they have a 3.23 ratio.

thanks any help appreciated.

front is a Dana 44, Rear I wouldn't know. My friend has a 73 Power Wagon that had 3.23 ratio in his front D44/rear Chrysler 8.75, but he's now got a 9.25 in it. I would wager you've got one of the Chrysler axles out back.

I would agree.

It's easy to tell a Dana axle from a Chrysler 9.25. The Dana's have a 10 bolt cover while the 9.25 has a 12 bolt cover.

The Chrysler 8.75 and Danas both have 10 bolt covers, but the 8.75 is oval/round (depending on series) in shape while the dana cover has a lot of straight edges....at least that's the best way to describe it. [>:]

EDIT: This page should help you identify it by cover shape: http://www.performancecenter.com/pro...A/mode_change/
