Default 92 D150 Fuel tank problems

I was finally able to fill my gas tank all of the way up. FULL TANK. I was very happy because I have no working fuel gauge. just the trip odometer. Any way I kept smelling gas and I finally pulled over to discover that sure enough gas was really leaking down right around the hanging strap near the gas fill pipe. The leak is strange and I could not find any gas on top near the hoses or pipes. I guess I need to empty the gas out and then try to lower the tank and then try to find what is leaking. I know this is always dangerous working with gas. I tried to find gas tank replacement at local car parts stores and they said none available any IDEAS Thanks

how much gas did it take to fill? could be anything that is leaking. if there is a hole in the tank then the best thing to do would be to patch it. it is pretty hard to find gas tank. junk yards usually punch hole in the tanks to empty them. you could also inspect the sending unit and wires when you have the gas tank down.

Dry the area and throw some talcum powder over the area. Watch for where it gets wet. If it is under the strap you can block up the tank and remove the strap and use the drying with talcum powder again if needed.

Well Thank You For your Helpful posts I have after seven or eight hours and I am defianatly not bragging about my mechanic skill here but anway I got the bed of the truck unbolted and the fuel filler tube and overflow tube unhooked and That took way too many hours for me even if it was all by myself. But anyway I was abe to move the bed of the truck towards the rear enough to almost have enough room to work around the top of the fuel tank. I discovered that maybe the filler tube gasket needs to be replaced and I figure that might be when the tank is full a place where gas could be leaking from. I am trying to figure out what to do next. I started and let the motor run for about twenty minutes and of course no leaking gas occurred. The only thing I could think of next would be maybe if I can figure a ay to get the bed off all of the way I could drive around the block (Hoping the cops do not give me a tickets) to see if the movement of the body when driving around causes the tank to leak somewhere Washing the tank and Puting theTalcum Powder sounds like a good idea. THanks agan Imight just put a new FillerTube gasket on and see if that does it.
