Need Help, truck wouldn't start!!!!
Hi everyone, i'm new to the forums hopefully i'll get alot of helps from everyone. I have a 2001 dodge dakota quad cab, during winter my sisters drove the truck and it just lost power and stopped. We thought that it was the fuel, because the fuel light was on. So we added fuel and try to start it, but it wont start. The engine cranks and everything seems to be ok but it wouldn't start. So we had to tow it back home and take a look at it. So, ever since than my dad and my brother has been trying to figure out what is wrong with it. We changed the radiator checking all the wires. When we tried to start the truck again the mileage says "NO BUS". So can anyone help me figure this out??? Thanks alot everyone i really appreciate it.

Did anybody bother to check for spark? If it's got gas, spark and compression, God says it has to start.
Could be fuel delivery-need a fuel pressure gauge to see if there's enough there, compression tester to check engine compression and someone to hold plug wire to block to check for spark. Gots to have all three. |

Hmm....yeah, i would say fuel pump. I would deffinatly pull the plugs and see how the look. You would be suprized how much a spark plug could tell you about what is going on with the engine. If they look fine, i would check fuel pressure.
Keep us posted on your results!! ;) |

No Bus sounds like a bad ECU. :(
Got anyone near you with a similar year/engine/tranny Dakota you could swap ECUs with to test? Check the wiring to make sure mice haven't eaten anything too. |

granted this was with a neon, but same thing happened to me and after a $150 tow bill and 2 days of beating my head on the floor it turned out to be a pump fuse next to the relay. it,s a shot in the dark but worth a look

I'm not sure if all fuel pumps act the same, but I know in my dads 1999 GMC when his fuel pump was going out, then went out, you could hear it. It's loud enough that if you were standing outside the truck you could hear it, even a couple of seconds after he turned it off.
