Default lost cruise control on 2000 Dakota 3.9

I lost cruise control, as well as speedo and digital odometer (related??) on my 2000 Dakota extended cab recently. I'm driving to Texas tomorrow from SoFlorida, and cruise would be useful. Also, check engine light is on. Any idea on which relay(s) I should be replacing? Thanks in advance.

Check the codes. Probably just a fuse somewhere for the dash or along those lines.

Sounds like a speed sensor is out to me. That just by you saying no speedo

Those aren't normal symptoms for the rear wheel speed sensor though, I suppose there could be some other speedsensor, or maybe something changed in 2000. Definetly pull the code(s). If there's nothing displayed at all in the odometer then it sounds more like a fuse.

Most likely a fuse or relay. A vacuum line wouldn't cause the speedo and odo not to work. What is the code you are getting?

I have had the same prob for some time now. the 2000 doesn't have a fuse for the cruise. I did a check on the pcm for any codes, nada. I have come to the conclusion it's in the wiring somewhere, but it's to damn cold out right now to look at it so will have to wait till spring. But there is definitely no fuse in a 2000. I've gone thru every inch of the wiring and have found nothing for fuses for the cruise. Or else I'm just blind and someone will actually say where it is.

Well the way the cruise is set up, if the speedo is not working, the cruise won't work either. Have you tried doing the self-diag on the cluster?

Yup, Speed Sensor on top of the rear diff (in case yours is a 4x4)
Very easy to replace it yourself.

Here is one more thing to check.Try your heat/cool controls.
If it's STUCK in defrost even if you move it to floor or anywhere
else (run the blower and the engine while doing this) you *MAY*
have a broken wire off the IGN switch at the steering wheel.
I just had that problem with my 02. Mine was giving me the same
problems as yours and I changed the speed sensor and it did not
help. B U T I also had ABS, BRAKE and AIR BAG lights on and
would not go all after start up. I then noticed no control with
the heating/cooling system. Tilt wheel Dakota's did this more
than non tilt wheel.

Is was NOT a easy fix to find so I thought I'd pass this bit of
info along..

Good luck...
