Glass Pack/ Intake

One of my friends recently had a glass pack installed and (IMO) it sounded very nice. What will it cost and cost of install?
Also, I was hoping someone knew a semicheap way to go for an aftermarket intake and what would the hp gain be?

A glasspack will cost you $20 - $30. Figure another $5-$10 for clamps. Maybe a few bucks for elbows since the stock muffler is offset. I say try to do it yourself, but if you really don't want to I can't imagine any good shop charging that much for a simple install like that.

it cost me roughly $50 to put a glasspack on, and i did it myself and it works great. I just used some exhaust cement around the ends of the muffler so i get no leaks.

how does it sound? im looking for a semi quiet sound when cruising and idleing, but would like a nice throaty sound when i step on it. did you have touse elbows since the stock exhaust is offset?i have been debating on putting a glass pack type on my truck...alot cheaper than a big name brand turbo muffler and all i care about is the sound anyway.

RE: Glass Pack/ Intake

IMO glass packed mufflers are a waste of money, they dont last for one, and two they have a terrible splatty sound, go w/ a flowmaster 50 serries for a good all around sound, also dont use them there 1.50 clamps either unless you like the cackle DIY cheap exhaust sound...

Yeah when it is at an idle is it semi quiet, and when you step on it it does have that throuty sound.......i have it on the 4.7L im happy with it. Havent done it to my ram yet but will be shortly

and no i didnt need to use any elbows it just slid in....there was a little bit of movement in the exhaust and i had enough to push it to one side to line everything up.

RE: Glass Pack/ Intake

i had a dodge charger in high school with a 340 and had two glass pack mufflers hooked onto headers and it sounded ok...more sound than the turbo mufflers i had before them. as far as not lasting, i dont know, i had them for 4 years up until i sold the car and they were fine. i do know that "splatty" sound you are talking about tho. a friend of mine had an el camino and his sounded like a speed boat...blub blub blub sound to it. whatever i do, i am going to get them welded tho, i dont want leaks.
