Default Straight pipe

I have a 2000 dakota with a 4.7 and i want to straight pipe my truck. I was wondering if it cuts your gas milage at all? I have had some people tell me that it cuts it a lot and i also had others that it doesn't cut it. They say that the only way that it would cut the milage is because you pound on the gas to hear your exhaust. What do you guys think because with gas prices the way they are i want all the gas milage i can get.

no matter what engine IMO, you cut out back pressure in your exhaust system, you lose low end torque which in turn loss of power, great for the top end though, just get a nice cat back exhaust if your looking for a deeper rumble, and yeah, loudder exhaust = driver's heavy foot to hear it scream

yeah the more and more i read about it, it seems like it needs a muffler but if i do it temporarily while i wait for the muffler will it hurt the engine any or will it be fine for a little but?

It will hurt your values though. Straight pipe eventually can burn up the exhaust valves.

well i took off the muffler and i cut it off at the begining of the muffler and took off everything back and dumped it out the side. I am temporarly going to leave it like that while i wait for my flowmaster 40 series to arrive. I am going to drive from here in lima oh to back home in michigan i don't think it will hurt it.
