how many people have a 9 1/4 rear

i was flushing the rear end and got a gasket and everything and went to put it on and took the gasket back and all the parts house had listed for durango dakota rear ends was a 8 3/4? rear end just wondering how many people have came across this

Lol, Chrysler hasn't put the 8 1/4 under a vehicle in years. Thats an old axle.

But anyway, use Black RTV Gasket Maker, not a preformed gasket. Cheaper and more effective.

Dodge doesn't use diff gaskets anymore with the one exception of the Dana 60 I think. Silicone works wonders though, but if you use the orange MOPAR stuff its nasty.

ya everybody says just silicone the pan on but i dont want to do it again and thats how i took it off so thats how i put it back together and 95_318SLT nobody said anything about a 8 1/4 rear end ???? so i dont know what ur thinking but i was just wondering how many people have the 9 1/4 in there dakota

moparman_2004 01-03-2010 03:26 AM

and the build sheet i got from dodge reads the following

3.92 Axle Ratio
Corporate 9.25 LD Rear Axle
Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle

I'm sure that somebody probably makes a gasket for it, and it would make clean-up alittle easier. Most 2nd gens have a 9.25 axle as do most Rams from 94 or so and up. Original equip would have been silicone only though.

moparman_2004 01-03-2010 04:15 PM

but i was just curious cause the parts houses only list durango dakotas at a 8 3/4
