I dont know about touching the battery terminals together but when I replaced my front end I had the same problem and it turned out it was a loose ground on my fender.I would try checking them. Also possibly the IAC but I would try the grounds first.

This is EXACTLY what was happening to me. Started, it would be really low rpms and just stop. Next, I started it and held it at 3,000 rpms and it leveled out. Some people on here suggested the IAC (Idle Air Control), or the TPS. My truck must have sensed that it was about to get parts taken off, I got in it that night and it fired right up after sitting for 6 hours and idled fine on its own. Are you getting any codes?

well if it's starting up fine then it shouldn't be the battery. I would maybe look at your alternater? maybe its not holding a charge? just a thought anyways.

I'm having the same problem. Been trying to trouble shoot and today i replaced the PVC valve. At first the idle was lower then it was but I took it off the vacuum hose that was connected to it and the idle went up and seemed ok. I took the new PVC valve out to inspect and I think it may have been a little clogged because there was a lot of crud in the oil filler neck which I tried to clear away a bit. Hooked it back up and the idle seemed good. The true test will be in the morning when it's cold because it always seemed to run good when it was warm.
