COLD start squeal?

Been mighty cold here in the Denver area the past few days. I've noticed on cold mornings (below 20?) that I get a little squeal when I start up in the morning. Generally only lasts a second or two and there seems to be no noticeable issues.

Just really caught my attention this morning after the truck had been sitting in sub-zero temps for over 24 hours and it howled this morning for a good 10 seconds or so.

Sounds like it's on the driver side of the vehicle. Perhaps it's just thick fluid (steering?) getting pumped through the system?

No issues what-so-ever when starting in freezing or above temps.

i bet its the belt just slipping for a second

Mine does the same for about a min but its more of a chirping sound its not consent.

Hm.... Maybe I'll listen again in the AM and see if it "chirps" or "squeals".

Thanks guys!

I'm up in Montréal and I have noticed the exact same thing a few times when it gets to about -20 Celsius (~ -5 f)

It is just less than a second and sounds to be mostly squeal. After reading this I guess it must be the belt on my truck. Let us know if you find anything different for yours.

Ha! Didn't do it this morning. Maybe wasn't cold enough. Will try again in the AM as we're headed up to Copper and will have to get going pretty early in the morning when it's still cold.

I would agree with the belt slipping a bit. The belts seem to get more solid from the frost and the belt takes a little while to move and heat up.
