Maybe that's why my gas milage doesn't seem that great compared to other 4.7s? I have never seen the line passed halfway on my gauge and I've owned the truck over two years now. So I'm guessing it's a 180. So did some 4.7s come stock with a 180 degree tstat?

What are the pros and cons of 195 over 180?

Rakaric 02-21-2011 07:14 PM

stock is the 195. having a 180 keeps your temps down while sacrificing fuel economy because the computer dumps more fuel. I'm waiting to see if it really did make a difference because so far my winter MPG has been 10 - 11.

my guage from day one has never hit half way. i have hot heat in 3-4min of driving from a cold start and go. under 2min if it idles for 1min or so. i thought that was pretty normal

Mine takes forever to warm up. On a cold day (0 to 5 degrees) it would take 15 minutes for the needle to even move. Is there anyway to tell by looking at the tstat? Is it stamped on it or anything? I really don't need to keep my temperature down. I don't beat on it and it's 0 out all winter here. I need the fuel economy more. Last two highway trips doing 65mph I got 15 mpg. I thought it should be better...

Yea I was curious, too. There is nothing showing on it what temp rating it is. The only bit of information I had was that the rubber seal gasket was white, which indicates to me that it was the factory stat, because none of the new parts have that color...they are all black. Unless I'm proven wrong otherwise.

mine was stamped.

dumb question... i had to replace a lower rad. hose and after that my truck keeps dumping coolant i did what the manual said and checked it at normal temp which is in the middle for me... got the level straight and drove like 80 miles and went to a trail and like ten mins later it dumped coolant everywhere and it was barely over half.....is my t-stat stuck or what?? any ideas

Did you notice any difference what so ever in power? I'm sure any difference would be very small but I was just curious.

you said you reached 210 on the highway is that normal? if im moving that fast the airflow usually keeps me down under 190.

Blaze10 02-22-2011 12:38 PM

idk about myn, i always thought it was normal but my mid way is 210 and myn runs at 190-200 i am assuming that is ok? always a hair mark under 210
