Monroe Reflex Experience

Hey folks,

last summer I had some Monroe Reflex installed up front on my truck, and they've been great up until about a week ago.

They're not exceptionally tight suspension to begin with so it's taken some gradual time to notice, but I have a seemingly busted shock on the front passenger side.

She's got a pretty hefty bounce to her now; If I bounce on the front fender and let go, it'll keep bouncing for 3 or 4 rocks. If I hit a few of the typical highway rolls, she'll give a good bouncy ride as well, as though I were in a low rider with hydraulics... while it's a fun time, it's potentially dangerous.

I've only driven about 12-15,000km (~7,500 - 9,300miles) on these shocks since last summer, so I suspect this is a little early for them to be dead from normal wear.

I'm not one to drive over crazy terrain, off-roading, etc. She's a 2wd and certainly not meant to be driven that way...

Anyone else have this sort of experience with Reflex shocks?

my buddy got a set of monroe shocks from napa, not sure if they were the relfex but they were a lower quality shock. 2 months later we took them off and 1 was totally fubar and the others werent much better. if you want a high quality shock go with pro comp or rancho

Thanks Thunder.

I'm gonna see if these are covered under warranty, (hoping so)
If not, then I'll just get a couple Bilsteins or Ranchos installed.

(ranchos are made by the same company as the monroes so I am potentially leery about those.

get some Bilstein or KYB shocks

Bilstein or KYB shocks best for the money.

Rancho are ok

In the 1970 and 1980's

I used to build Baja Bugs and sand rails for people in the 70’s and 80’s went to many races how fun my specialty was suspension and racing engines I custom built any size engine and did my own custom heads and carburation mods I had all the special tools back then.

But Bilstein and Micky Thompson were the best shocks even for city driving.:icon_biggrin:

I put on monroe before on my wrecked truck, i didn't have a problem with them. Might have gotten a good pair.

Reflex's have a lifetime warranty so if you still have your receipt, they'll replace them for free. If not, I'm not sure if they still replace them or not. I have Reflex shocks on all four corners and they seem fine. The front ones have been on there for two years now with no problems... and I drive on some of the worst roads there are.

A couple of years ago the shaft on one of the fronts (Reflex) broke on my Durango. It took me a couple of days to look into it and find out why it was bobbing so bad. Got it replaced. Nice to have a lifetime warranty.

I have about 50,000 on my Reflex shocks. All are still doing fine. Maybe you got a bad one. Check the warranty, maybe see if you can get a new shock.
