98 Dakota V6 Best Practice?

I have a 98 Dakota 4x4 that gets 15 miles to the gallon. Terrible!
Any comments on how to chip it and get better gas mileage. Its a dog for power, but the engine seems bullet proof for reliability.
Any best practices out there?
John

They sell tuners for better mpg. Other than that try a tune up or just be gentle with the pedal.

Hey man, I'm getting 14 and a half with a 2wd V6. 15's pretty good as it is, I don't think you'll be able to get much more out of it. Just keep your foot out of it for the most part.

I have a 97' 3.9 v6 and I get 21 driving to my cabin and 18 around town. When I go to the cabin I drive between 65-70 mph. The truck has 107,000 miles and the only thing I did was a complete tune and K&N air filter. I also use Mobil 1 oil. I think the biggest difference is the tire size. A friend has the same truck w/ large tires and he gets 16 mpg.

Im running E3 spark plugs and are seeing some 20's on the highway. Do a tune up new plugs wires and such and that should help. Change oil to something like royal purple has been shown to add MPG. Topper or other bed covers add MPG not a lot but every bit helps.

I don't get how dodge could get buy making this poor of MPG out of a 6 banger.
I bought the truck because it was a v-6 expecting at least 18mpg. That's what I get for not researching. Although, It is supposed to be bullet proof.

v6=dog so it needs more power pushing around a heavy truck. My v8 gets around 15mpg thats city not sure about highway since im rarely on it but I would say 17-18
