Default Gauge light ?

weird question ... i have a 98 dakota 4 wheel .... everytime i apply the brakes to stop the gauges light flickers on and make the chime noise . then the oil gauge drops quick then once the RPM get low idle every thing goes back to normal the light goes off ?? i checked out all fuses cleaned battery connections and including the connection at the power distribution center ... ??????? outta ideas and yah it just started this last week ... thanks

I think the oil gauge might be the clue.

Check gauges and the chime come on when one of the gauges is "out of limits," like the oil pressure.

How is the oil pressure? How's the level too? If it's very low when you stop it may cause the oil pump to cavitate.

Throw a mechanical gauge on it and take it for a ride, watch the oil pressure as you stop.

appeciate the tip on the oil level ... added about 1/2 quart . and took it for test drive .. solved the problem .. need to change oil anyway over due .. thanks again

Glad it helped.

I'd have thought it would need to be lower than 1/2 qt but every engine is different.

Ya I guess better then blowin up your engine .... I just know I'm tired of workin on trucks. My 99 2wheel. Needs a heater core. Fun fun .....
