I have a 1999 Dakota SLT with the venerable 318, and, being a highschool gearhead, I have upgraded the motor with a cold air intake and a "custom" exhaust. I plan to chip the computer, but I was wondering if there was a way to give the engine a lower, more stumbled sounding idle, without spending money on a high performance cam. My funds are limited.
if you get an SCT tuner you can have him lower your idle, mine was lowered to 600 sounds pretty good with the HO cam. butwith the 5.2 you can get a cam to make it thump.
or just pull a spark plug wire off and run on 7cycl and run with out an properly working IAC...lol
use 3 or 4 inch dia ext pipe, in the last 6-8 inches will give a deeper sound. one time i built muffler that can be taken out to be louder, of put it in for less noise.
Mine idles about 600/575ish.. sometimes a little higher right a smidge above 600 but mostly right below the 600 mark. so i assume 575-680 range.. dunno if its ever had a tune or not.. thought 600 was factory idle.
