Why don't use a steel plate in one of the useless corners of the bed and weld it a tube of the diameter of the flag pole well that the flag can fit in the tube

good one. but im thinkin of bolting in some I hooks of some sort on the front of the bed and then i will be able to slip the flag in and out. will put a cotter pin to hild it in place.

You might think about either putting a weak section of pole at the base, or welding a spring at the base. That way when you forget how tall it is, and hit a low bridge, it isn't that big of a deal.

For mine, I just took a 2x4, crosscut it to the width of the bed, and got it to fit snug in the 2x4 cutout for carrying drywall or whatever. Next I built a small vertical frame for the flag off of the initial 2x4. I then put a huge lag bolt on each side of the 2x4, and strapped it down to the front and back cargo hooks. It was a good quick flag mount, I built it like a day before the 10th anniversary of 9/11. It held the flag good and strong, and I plan on using it again in the future. I will try and get pics in the coming days.

i have a metal flag pole that will work good! it tops out bout 5 inched about my cab, so i wint hit bridges. just went to osh today and seen a few options for mounting it with i hooks and a pvc pipe that will sit inbetween the two bolts. the flag will fit righ in there and shove a cotter pin in to keep it still. and i can slip both the flag and the pvc iut when im not using it!
