Rear Diff Question

Do a search on this topic, lots of threads on this already.
With that being said, there is no Dakota rear diff with a "posi". It was either a locker or a LSD. Yes you can put in a locker or LSD unit but it depends what your needs are. If all you want it for is to say you can do good burnouts, it's not worth it. If you plan to offroad the truck a lot, then a locker is a good option. Lockers can be a little rough on the street though depending on the locker you instal. Instal costs are high too since they are time consuming to put in. They make simplier "lunch box" lockers that are easier to instal and I've read a lot of mixed reviews on them. Limited slip will gain you more traction but it can slip like the name says and you won't always be guaranteed both wheels to grip.
LSD came as an option in Dakotas and Durangos so you may be able to find an axle out of one of those and swap it in. Probably the easiest and cheapest solution and since your 2wd the gear ratio doesn't really matter.
This is kind of a broad overview. I'm by no means an expert on rear differentials but have done some reading. There's some other guys on here that can give you a lot more insight.
But to answer your question straight forward; yes you can it just depends on what you want.
