Turn-signal problem (possibly figured out - just need proper part name/ number)
I've had my Dakota since October of 2011 and it had MOUNTAIN of problems.
As of right now I’m down to two.
1. Discovered that the Check Engine Light (in the cluster) was missing and I was tipped-off to that fact when I failed inspection. My mechanic told me it appeared to be a kaput upper draft O/2 sensor - via the diagnostic computer.
This issue will be entertained on Sunday morning with a dashboard dismantle coupled with hopes and dreams that a new O/2 sensor is actually solve this problem.
Stay tuned...
2. My passenger-side turn signals work, properly 30% of the time.
I'll try to explain better while keeping it short;
A day or two after I bought my Dakota the Passenger/right-side turn signal would blink rapidly on the dash. I looked at the Passenger/right-side (front & back) and it appeared that the one filament on the front was burnt out. I replaced the bulb but it didn't fix the problem.
I've looked through my Haynes Repair Manual and it doesn't have anything in a problem like this.
This issue has gotten more...uh, all over the place since then.
I now hear a strained clicking sound that matches up with the beat of my right-side turn signal coming from the left-side of my steering wheel. I'm not certain but I think it is coming from the between the kick plate and the dash, around the back-side of the fuse bank.
Do 1998 Dakotas have a flasher relay or something like that?
IF SO, do any of you have a part number?!
Regardless; I am open ears to opinions, suggestions, tips, and/or experiences.
Thank you in advance.

Turn signal/Hazard flasher relay via autozone: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...questid=508290
Relays are located behind the fuse panel.

Thanks a lot for the help. I did search the Internet for this issue but the actual turn signal arm assembly kept coming up as the result. I knew there was a relay or or something but I didn't know what, exactly, it was called. Thanks again. This is a huge help. I'll let you know how it goes...

My Dakota had a cheap illuminated hitch cover when I bought it. It would blink only when I switched on the passenger-side turn signal - otherwise, it would stay lit when the lights were on. No problems with the windshield wiper or anything else but I will check the ground anyways, just in case. Thanks!

Just installed the new flasher module - it was insanely easy. Luckily the flasher module was right there on the fuse panel (facing out) when you open the cover:
The existing flasher was green, replacement is black. I'm going to give it a few days but I think it may have cleared up the problem. The indicator clicking sounds completely different/better. I immediately felt confident about it when I tried it out for the first time.
I appreciate the help!
