front hub
I've got an 2001 2 wheel drive that while doing front brakes I noticed that the spindle nut on the drivers side has come loose.
I replaced the front hubs about 6 months ago and thought I tightened them enough. Should I lock tight them or is there some thing I overlooked when I put them on. I didn't see any cotter pins, tabs to bend in to hold nut or anything. Truck will be off road for another week so I've got time to fix this and the other side as well. |
Get a new nut, they are not reusable then torque it to 185 foot pounds. Don't guess, use a torque wrench.

You need to use new nuts as they are a 1 time use only . I got mine from Napa , about 11 bucks apiece and they are listed as , pay attention here as i know it`s not what we normal folks call them ; Wheel hub retaining ring , pn # BRG 6504007 and the Product line ; NAPA BEARINGS ,, this is how napa lists them in their computer and if you try to have them look up axel nuts or wheel hub nuts or anything similar they will say it is something they cant get and youll have to get at a dealer , so just wright down this info and give it to them and say you need 2 and you will be good to go ! Most readily available 1/2 inch drive torque wrenches only read to abt 150 ftlbs of torque ,, i was told by a shop mechanic that used to work at a dodge dealership that i could torque to that number and then continue past that to about but no more than a 1/4 turn past the 150 click on the wrench and it should be about right , this is what i done and i havent had any troubles yet and i installed the timkin wheel hubs on both sides of my truck in april of this year and have put alot of highway miles on it since . Hope that helps !!
