Default Do all numbers have to match for CTM module replacemnet?

I have narrowed down my problems with the 2001 Dakota to the CTM. Looking for a CTM that matches on Ebay and parts places online but can't seem to find an exact match.

Do all the numbers have to match? This is a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport 4x4 with 4.7L V8.

Thanks for any help!

Not always. Sometimes the p/n has been superseded.

But, the programming has to match your old CTM - especially the security function. The CTM is a computer. Like any computer it's not just the p/n that matters.

Get a rebuild one from a legitimate rebuilder. They'll need some info such as your VIN to program it correctly.

Thanks for the reply I really appreciate it. Do you know of any good re-builders to suggest? Sometimes hard to know looking at the Internet who is legit or not.
Thanks,
Jed
