2001 Dakota Quad Cab - Front Noise
Changed the worn tires 6 months after buying this used truck.
Over a short time a noise has developed under the front. The noise sounds like tire alignment. I checked and found a CV axel boot busted open. Changed the complete axle, ball joints, hub assembly just because. Noise is still there. Sounded to me like a misaligned tire. No pull on the steering, but took to an alignment shop. They said it was a ball bearing. No alignment necessary. Some things I've noticed. While driving down the road, if I slightly move the steering to the left, the noise goes away. Truck rides fine, no issues. Gas mileage sucks! Any ideas? |
Not sure what you mean about it sounding like a tire alignment.
You likely have a bad hub. That it goes away on a turn confirms it. As you turn it loads the bearing and it quiets down. It is probably the RH front but it could be either. |
'tire alignment' skewed making noise.. don't know how else to describe it...
I changed the left hub assembly on the left side along with the new axle... I plan on replacing the right side CV axle, hub assembly and ball joints. I hope you are right.... |
HUb assembly
Gojoego, where did you get the hub assembly? Are you talking about the whole knuckle with bearing?
|
John,
I just grabbed this from the autozone site. It was the Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly-Front http://www.autozone.com/suspension-s...?checkfit=true |
Bearing
Thanks, I thought it was the knuckle as well. Holy crap are those expensive!
