Shorten rear end

Can you guys help with how much a rear end on my 2000 dakota needs to be cut to put some nice slicks under the wheel wells...
I just recently purchased a good condiction dakota with what appears to be factory installed kenne bell supercharger. Lol first week out and seems like I have hurt the pinion bearing so I am looking for some advice kn what slicks I can get under the wheel wells.
This is a retirement hobby for my grandson and I to spend time together on.
This isnt a budget build, I plan on throwing some decent money at this truck
Thanks for any help advice what ever you guys can give me.
Thanks Sid

the kenne bell is not factory installed nor was the design very good for our cases. However, it will work for what it is as long as the fuel curve has been modified.

Alot of guys in the dakota RT group run 28 x 9.5 - 15 clicks on CCW wheels without modifying the bed or the axle. A few have done 10.5 wide.

Flyin' Ryan Performance also offers custom tunes, you might look him up to see about a "canned" tune, especially if your truck might have come from anywhere close to the PIE shop (known for killing engines with poor fuel maps for boost, esp the KB unit)

Your the second person that has mentioned this problem. Can you give me some more information about this. Thanks

which problem?

Just about the kb supercharger. It seems to be set up right, it runs pretty good. Lol I just blew the rear end.
I have no idea how many miles are on the motor, speedo says 212,000 but runs too good for that. I'm building this truck to race more than anything. Originally I wanted a 4.7 so a hemi swap would be easy. Than I foundthis one. So I'm trying to decide if I go into the 4.7 and build it or just go right to a hemi that starts with good power.
I stopped racing in the early 80s when car dealers killed hp. Now that I'm retired and getting back into it everything is so differant. But I want a 10 second truck to run with my buddies, who are all chevy guys. Plus there running 80,000 dollar vets. I want to make mine to hang with them. I have always been a dodge guy since my first durango in 99. My daily driver is a 02 5.9 Durango

sent you a private message.

in a nutshell, you dont need to mini-tub or shorten the housing. with a set of mono-leaf and caltracs, you can run into the 9's in the 1/4 with a 28-10.5 non-W and not have any problems. I have a set of 26-10.0-15's on a set of factory 15" wheels and they just fine on the width.
