Loose steering

I just replaced my Rack and Pinion along with outer tie rods in my 00 4x4 as well as a new intermediate shaft also an alignment and now there is more play in the wheel then before anything was changed. is there a way to adjust the intermediate shaft or tighten it?

Are you sure that is where the slop is?

not exactley but it was not there 2 days ago when the old equipment was in. i can put my hand on the intermediate shaft and feel the play just moving that with my hand

Have a friend help you, and find out EXACTLY where the slop is. It's entirely possible your 'new' rack, is worse than the one your replaced.....

Moved into a new thread.

Check the entire front suspension including the ball joints. I agree though that it sounds like you have a lot of play in your intermediate shaft.

The problem has been solved!! I disconnected the new intermediate shaft from the upper steering shaft and noticed that there was play in it because it did not fit tightly over the upper shaft. I crimped it down a little with a vice grip and managed to get it back on and tightened the bolt back down and that took care of it. So beware the new intermediate shafts may not go on tight enough to eliminate all slop in the wheel!
