1998 Dakota 5.2L Fuel Rail Crossover Leak

All,

The crossover fuel line between the two fuel rails on my 5.2L V8 Dakota had a major leak. I had already removed the line before I realized that the line/rails for this model are made out of unobtainium.

I've seen that at least one over used 100psi fuel injector hose with double clamps at each end when he ran into that situation.

Any other suggestions or comments?

Thanks,

George

Should be steel/aluminum fuel rails? Should be able to score them from any 98 or up dodge truck, regardless of size. (up to 01 I think.) That said, some fuel injection line, and some good hose clamps works as well.

Pull a set of junkyard rails. Don't try to replicate the factory crimp, unless you have the proper ferrule, ring, and crimper. There were a few changes to the rails over the years. Some do not have the pressure-check fitting (i think 97, maybe 98) and the injector was changed in 00 or 01 between EV1 and EV6/USCAR, which I believe will affect height but maybe not.

Just get some high pressure fuel line and good clamps. Chances are you'll going to break any youre going to get from the junk yard. Should be less then $20 at a parts store.

Anyone who gets an airgap intake does the same thing because what hughes sends with the intake is poop.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I made the repair with fuel injection line and clamps (I believe the original used some sort of heat shrink from all appearances)..

Since the truck is only driven on dump and mulch runs totaling a couple of hundred miles a year it won't be any great shakes to check the line on a regular basis.

Thanks again,

George
