Default Recommend a good OBD scanner for me?

I'm looking for a good OBD scanner for my 99 Dakota. I want one that allows me to, (in addition to the usual see why the check engine light is on), tweak or modify settings if I have to, and look at various codes and sensor readings while I'm driving.

Recommendations appreciated.

P.S: I assume I need an OBD-II type scanner, not entirely clear on that detail.

I've already got a superchips, but was also looking for more functions kinda like the ScanGauge II. Check this out. Now if i only had some money...

BlueDak, is this what you're talking about? http://www.superchips.com/product.ph...mk=806&msg=%2B

If yes, I was wanting something with several lines of display that I can view while driving.

Has anyone ever heard of or used AutoTap software? http://www.autotap.com/

Website looks nice, and they have a good video demonstration. It works with a PC, so it looks like you'd have to have a laptop, and a cable from laptop's USB port to the OBD connector.

I tried a program similar to the autotaps but it was way too much info for me. Plus, I found myself wanting to track changes in advance, fuel mixture, and the 42 other little windows on my laptop and I almost became a traffic statistic! I'm sorry I can't remember the manufacturer, but the good news was they had a no questions asked 100% refund policy. So, for my safety and the safety of others, I sent it back. If you're looking for that kind of sophistication, then that type of software should really blow wind up your skirt!

if you are bucks up.....i'd recommend a snap-on modis........it has the ability to scope the sensors, do inductive pick-up and you get updates(w/ a little price)....also it tells you/make you choose to see the trouble shooter.....
