i need to replace my ball joints. Lower ones that is. Is this a job i can do myself? or should i have it done elsewhere for 150? Should i replace the uppers as well?

 

its not a easy job but it can be done your self. First off you need the right tools. I would replace the upper also. I have never replaced only one.

 

i have replaced both upper and lower on both sides before, and if you dont have a complete knowledge of the front suspension of your truck, i would suggest letting a professional do it.

you will need:

1. compressor
2. misc. air tools
3. jack
4. long crowbar
5. grease
6. a friend with patience

you might be able to get away with keeping the spring in the lower control arm while doing the job, but i would stay away from that approach. just take the spring out, set it aside, replace the ball joints (having them lubed and ready to go), replace spring, reassemble.

like i said, if you dont know what you are doing, let a pro do it.

For $150 I might just consider having somebody do it.
