Headlights, Power Locks, and Wipers won't function
I have a 2002 Dakota and my power locks, headlights, and wipers all went down at the same time. The service 4wd light also came up on the message panel at the same time. The wipers will still work on the high speed mode but that's it. I found a 2001 manual and looked through the wiring diagrams and the only common part I could find was the Central Timer Module. I checked all the related fuses which didn't fix the problem. Any ideas?
Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. |
RE: Headlights, Power Locks, and Wipers won't function
The central timer module (CTM) seems to be the Achilles’ heel of the Gen II Daktoas (and Gen I Durangos for that matter).
There was a recall on some 2003 Dakotas and Durangos for faulty CTMs. The exact wording in the recall is, the vehicles "may have an improperly sized circuit board that could cause the right headlamp low beam to become inoperative." Unfortunatly, of course, you don't have a 2003. I wouldn't doubt its the CTM. I do believe this is a dealer-only part [:'(]. When you proceed to the dealership to bend-over and take it in the *wallet*, tell them that you read online that these things seem to have an abnormally high failure rate. Is your truck covered under any kinda warranty (I know at some point they were doing a 7yr/70K mile warranty...)? Eh, try what you can, but I'm afraid your guess is also the answer. Your yet another statistic further proving that [for the most part] less electronics on a vehicle is better. |

I have a 01 and the same thing started happening to me, the temp. fix is to take the Neg. off the batt and
reinstall. Mine seems to happen when in parking lots with many other cars with door openers? |

RE: Headlights, Power Locks, and Wipers won't function
After parked at the Golf course at DFW airport my locks did not operate for the third time. It only happened once at my home when we had four other cars locking and unlocking their doors. I know my garage door opener will quit when it receives many signals in a short period of time. There is a antenna located on theCTM.
