RE: Which Engine?
the 3.9 does tweak my interest, definantly unique
Imagine sitting at a stoplight and a diesel 'kota pulls up.
I don't know much about the diesel engines
could anybody run some HP/ torque specs by?
any price ideas? It may actually be a viable option

RE: Which Engine?
the 3.9 is not wwhat you call o so powerful, about 120 hp with about 250 ft lbs of torque, if you get the regular b series, you can turn that up using a turbo and playing with the injector pump, if you get an ISB motor, you most likely can bring it to a cummins dealer to turn up the fuel a bit for more power plus a turbo,or wait til 09 and cummins will have a v6 and v8 avliable for the ram 1500 and im pretty sure the durango as well.. hopefully, shove one into a dakota, despite the new diesel emission standards created by the EPA 15PPM for sulfur for 2007, and 0PPM of sulfur for 2010, big restrictions, but these cummins engines comming up for dodge have impressive numbers.. im sorry, im just additced to the raw power a diesel engine puts out. RE: Which Engine?
the 5.9 is alot of work, unless you have about $20k, and alot of fabrication experience and are confident in welding... its not worth it, the 5.9 is too long for our engine bays, you will have to push the firewall back about 6 inches, and then lift the truck cause the engine is tall, beef up the frame rails cause that engine weighs 1100 w/o a transmission, the the transmission for it is about 200-300 pounds, and the frame rails need extra crossmembers to help support the te toruw generated by the engine otherwise it will twist like a pretzel. dont get me wrong, that would be o so sweet but if you want praticality with a diesel engine in a dakota, the 3.9 is where you go in my opinion, granted you may have to lift the truck or let the engine ride higher in the engine bay (only reason you cant raise the 5.9 is just for the fact its too long), theres so much to take into consideration.

thats a dakota with a 5.9, some stuff you dont have to do like custom intake manifold, thats just for extra horses, remember its do-able but is it worth it?, like swaping out a 3.9 v6 gasser for the 5.9 v8 gasser in our trucks, The 5.9 shoved in the rams can move about 16,000 lbs and the 3.9 can move about 10,000 guessing since they are very common in delivery vans, whatever you do, let me know how it goes, i plan on shoveing the 3.9 cummins into my dak in a few years, i need some footnotes to work off of

RE: Which Engine?
I know about that dak. sweet truck!
but like I said, I have very limited exp. with diesel engines
so thanks for the heads up
I know I most likely will move the firewall for what ever i put in but that far is too much
plus it's gonna lay frame when i finish the airbag setup

RE: Which Engine?
if you want a sweet truck with respectible power and a daily driver, i would get a six cyl and supercharge it. forget about the tt v8. i can honestly say my 1987 buick grand national put alot of hurting on dak r/t,s the 6 banger kept screaming for more. plus it is light wieght and you dont need to do any engine bay modification. plus it is silent under the hood

RE: Which Engine?
To superdak05, the Buick Grand National is awesome I myself have had one of those cars and it was the best car ever. It screamed literally, the turbo V6 can not be touched. But, I sold it to a man in Colorado. I miss beating the Mustangs from my home town. Do you have pics of your Buick?
But for the topic of this thread if you want daily driver, I would try looking at some of Mopars crate Hemi motors. Some are over the top and cost $14K or more, some are $7K, but that would sound awesome andwould kick the assof theTurbo Honda's. Just throwing some ideas out.
