have a 2001 dakota 4.7 and a factory service manual, but still cannot locate the radiator draincock! supposed to be lower left corner of radiator facing the rear of truck? would appreciate any help locating it!!!! the book that came with the truck shows 17 us qts. coolant capacity but the factory service manual shows 13 us qts. including the coolant reserve/overflow tank. would like to know in advance the cooling system capacity in order to determine how much antifreeze to buy, has anybody used prestone ($9.87 gal) rather than mopar ($15.57 gal)? any help will be appreciated in advance!!!!!!

 

You can't see it because the shroud on the bottom of the engine and radiator area. If you remove that, you'll see it.

 

i removed the shroud and got under the truck with a shop light and i still didn't see it. i have owned many vehicles over the years, including another dodge pickup, and have never had a problem finding the drain plug. i guess i could just run a hose down from the radiator cap and siphon the coolant out and then disconnect the lower radiator hose, but i sure would hate to think this would be the only way to drain the coolant.

I let the dealer do it when it needed done. I took one lok at the manual and then the truck and decided to let them deal with it. Besides, they can dispose of the used antifreeze easier than I can.
