I have been on this site before,Got lot good information,I have 2000 Dakota,Just did 3.9 to 5.2 swap,Very easy to do,My problem I am having,Maybe someone can answer?Truck runs awsome everything works,Only thing I do not have is overdrive,My overdrive light an trans temp light is on,I got pcm out of 99 Dakota 5.2 auto 2 wheel drive,Any ideas,Thanks

Is you're transmission a 45? or 42? The tranny may to too weak to handle the power

Another thing is you could have a failed temp sensor

I belive a 42,Now trans worked just finemI drove to work that morning with the 3.9 still in,That evening did the swap.

I'm not an expert with the whole tranny set ups. I have 45FRE that I converted to the 545FRE. But the way the numbers work is 42RE (I believe that is the tranny, you say you have) is 4= 4 speed (gears), 2= ~200 ft. lbs. of torque is what your tranny is rated for, R= rear wheel drive, E= Electric.

Quick math is a 5.2L makes ~300 ft lbs of torque, 42RE not designed to handle that much torque.

I understand tranny not strong enough,Am going to upgrade trans sometime,But I dont beat my truck.I could understand if i had trans problem before swap,But I had none,Trans shifts good,Have gears 1 2 3 an lock up,Just no over drive,has be something different with 1999 pcm not sending signal.

Usually, with a "no bus" issue, there is a short in the CCD harness somewhere. The 1999 and 2000 models share the same data bus but there may be changes.

Try a cluster self test. Key off, press and hold the trip reset on the dash. Then while holding, turn the key on (not start) -- keep holding until CHEC displays.

It'll test the lights, sweep the gauges, and test the cluster itself. Any error codes will display in the odometer - these are cluster codes, not "P" codes.

To clarify the other posts, the 45RFE goes with the 4.7. Usually a 44re is behind a 5.2 but a 42re will bolt up.

Thanks for info,I did the cluster test does everything you said,Odometer said check went through test just says no buss,All my guages work just have OD an Trans temp light on.

Now am am still using my trans from my 3.9
