stalls when in reverse

Default stalls when in reverse

i put my 97 dakota 3.9 v6 in reverse and sometimes it stalls but most of the time the rpms drop to 500 and really doesnt want to go back up to 700 until i hit the gas could it be of my tranny cuz my tranny slips when im in drive and mainly slips when not in overdrive

how do you know it is slipping and yes.

I don't see how a slipping transmission could cause it to stall.

For what it is worth, I had something similar happen to me last year. The symptom was, when I put it into any gear, it would die. I had to manually press the accelerator to rev up the engine to keep it running.

For me, it turned out to be this gizmo that is attached to the carburetor, which controls the idling. It was only about a $20 device, I recall. If you need the exact "official" name of this part, I can look it up for you.

So this may be it, and your transmission problem may be a completely separate issue.

It may be slipping due to an issue with the front pump or valvebody, and the pressure is greatest in reverse.

how i know its slipping is because when im goin up a hill the rpms would redline and the truck would go nowhere happens in alot when overdrive is off and with the sensors on the throttle body i changed them and it still stalls when i go in reverse sometimes
