Default Blacking out stock wheels

Anyone ever have their stock wheels blacked out/painted by a body shop?

How much did it cost? How did they hold up over time? Thinking about doing it.

Do it with plastidip first and see if you like it before paying out big bucks to have it done professionally. If you google "2004 dakota black wheels", there are tons of pictures of Dakota's with blacked out OEM wheels.

Why would you pay a body shop to paint the wheels? Now powdercoating I can understand paying for.

I agree with plasti dip. You don't have to scuff them and can go back to stock or sell them some day.

Yeah but how well does plasti dip hold up? I can see that stuff coming off in a few weeks and the wheels looking like crap. Doyou have to pull the tires off to plasti dip?

I actually did mean powder coating, not sure why I said paint, just slang I guess.

Plastidip holds up rather well from what I've read. You do not havw to take the tires off. Just mask off the tires or use the playing card trick.

Cool, gonna give it a shot then I guess. Anyone know the best thing to clean up the wheel before applying the dip?

dodgeramguy85....what size BFG's are those in that pics? That's exactly what I want to get.

Clean them with soap and water. If they are really bad, buy some wheel cleaner at walmart. Nothing special needed.

I sprayed my wheels (2nd Gen Ram wheels) with plasti dip at first. Then I had them powder coated later and so glad that I did, the look is so much better than plasti dip. Prices will vary, but like any paint job, you get what you pay for. Got mine done for $450, money well spent IMO. The center caps could not be powder coated because the inside is plastic, so I had my friend who owns a body shop to paint them to match.

Todd, did you also put on the "glossifier"? Wonder how "glossy" it actually makes the plastidip look.
