Default Transmission interchange

Will a 99 dodge ram 1500 4x4 transmission interchange.with with a 97 dodge ram 4x4 transmission?

Not really. The valve body solenoid are different on both.

Solenoids, and sensors inside the trans are the same from 96-99. The only difference from 96-97 to 98-99 is in 98they switched over to the plastic encased filter. Ive rebuilt the valve bodies side by side and they are identical. I've swapped the transmissions throughout those years and no issues. This applies to 4wd only because the 96-97 2wd transmissions have the speedometer output in the tailhousing.

so will a trans from 98 1500 5.2 4x4 be a direct no mod swap into a 97 1500 5.9 4x4

Ok I thought I saw something about the torque converter or flex plates being different

Those changes occurred from 95 to 96. Should be a direct swap.

Between the 5.2 and 5.9?
I thought its internal vs external balancing.
