Default P0500 2002 dakota sxt manual

P0500
I guess it needs speed sensor replaced ...but where is this speed sensor location?

on real axle or on transmission...

vehicle pops out of 1st gear...if this code/ sensor has anything to do with it?

Might be on top of the rear axle, might be in the tailshaft housing of the trans. (or transfer case, if its 4x4) My bet would be on the rear axle.

Does your speedo work?

The speed sensor has nothing to do with it popping out of gear. You have a problem in the transmission.

So problem in the transmission is major like gear is worn correct?

or it could be something else like fluid?

More likely a bad synchronizer or a worn bearing.
