SVC 4wd light?

Hey guys, I'm a new guy looking for an answer. I did a search and could not find what I needed. I have a 2004 Durango 4.7 awd. My SVC 4wd light started coming on and off and it is now on for good. It will not transfer into 4 high now. I switched out the selector switch on the dash with no luck. I did read that some guys were having the same problem with 1st gen durangos and said that it was the TCCM. I called my local dealer and they could not find a TCCM for my 04. He did find a Front Control Module and said that it could be it. However it was $779, not about $400. What gives? can anyone help. Also what does the TCCM look like and were is it located? Thanks...

Do any codes show up besides that light? Does the Durango switch into 4x4 with the light on? You can try to rest the system by disconnecting the negative terminal for a few minutes and see if the light reappears. Here is a thread in the FIRST generation Durango section that may help:

It does not throw up any codes. It does not switch into 4wd either. I tried the diconnect the battery trick..no luck.

The Gen 2's are quite different from the Gen 1's. How many miles on the D?

When doing the battery reset, did you leave the neg disconnected and depress the brake pedal for at least a minute?

The Forward Control Module takes the place of several smaller systems that were used in the Gen 1's.

I did not push the brake when I disconnected the battery. If that does not do the trick are saying that most likely it would be that Forward Control Module? Where is that located?

Does the 4x4 switch have any lites on? If it doesn't. Take a look under the dash at the park brake ratchet, sometimes the wires for the 4x4 switch will short out on the brake switch on the ratchet.

I THINK the FCM is out under the hood, but not 100% sure on that. The reason for depressing the brake is to completely drain all residual power from the system to ensure a complete reset.

This has worked for more than 1 Gen 1 owner who apparently had a TCCM glitch.

How many miles on your D? If you are under 70K, you may possibly be under the 7/70 power train warranty. If so, your local dealer should fix it for $100.
