Default Hemi Tick Tick Sound (Spark Plugs Knocking) Sound

Hi guys

I have hemi 5.7L 2008 durango AWD.

I have weird sound when shifting from 1st to 2nd /3rd gear. The tick tick sound (similar to missing spark fire sound/knocking sound) starts & continues to 4th & 5th it goes off when press tow/haul or press gas pedal to down shift for quick acceleration. when i hard press pedal at start & all gears shifts in above 3000+ rpm. there is no sound. as soon as it come back to normal ride on 5th gear sound starts..continues in mds activated as well

major notice is low rpm & higher gear sound is there. Lower gear & high RPM (overdrive or quick accelration) no sound.

sound is not making any problem but just sound. I have replace all spark plugs & one of the coils & made sure that they are tighten well. it reduced the sound but not fully gone

appriciate yuor help. I love hemi & its heavy sounds but not this sound

THere are a few threads about this in the Ram (?) section. Type 'hemi tick' into the search function at the top of the page in the black menu bar,

I have ported heads on my Hemi and it will make a rattling sound due to the valve lash interfering with the MDS system,

I would do a full tune up and see if that helps. Replace the plugs, EGR valve and clean the throttle body,

man I really appriciate you all for this great help. I am just need to learn & don't want to waist time with dealer unless there is real problem.
BTW today i tested by disconnecting the EGR VALVE & the sound was very minimal (1000% acceptable by me) but it won't engage the MDS. how can i make sure that EGR VALVE is causing the issue.. new one is cheap but not free to replace & test..

thanks

Shahz:

Glad to hear you are making some progress. I assume you are using the proper 5w20 oil that is required by the MDS system.

The EGR valves can cause a variety of driveability issues. I would replace the valve and gasket. I think you can do this yourself for less than $100.

oil is 5w30 always changed by dealer. 30 is due to hot weather in saudi
ya its 63$ but is there a way to test egr. i yesterday serviced it from dealer.. its 50000km service. they checked but nothing found. as per them its injectors sound which i feel becos 4 injectors gets off in mds.

Hi all

I have replaced the egr valve with gasket. still the same, I should have recoreded the sound but could n't becos it only sounds when driving in idle noooooo sound. I was suspecting could it be fuel injector sound which some how increses when more fuel required. its a kind of gargling sound. I wish i could record it.
