Default Low battery plus power steering

Can a low batteyr affect power steering? I have a 2005 durango

While driving, battery light camoe on and while doing a turn, lost power steering but it came back as I got the durango straight.

Brought is to sears they said the alternator is fine but battery needs to be replaced.

Also I smelled coolant a bit.

So could a low battery affect all these?

Dodgey:
Sounds like you may have a coolant leak that was causing your serpentine belt to slip when turning.

The slipping belt will cause the Batt light to come on.

If your battery is OEM, it should be replaced anyway as our Durangos can act quite crazy when putting up with a dead or dying battery.
This is a well documented fact.

Please include what engine you have and how many miles on the rig?

Don
