2002 intrepid se check engine codes

Hi,
My wife drives a 2002 Dodge Intrepid SE. We've never had any problems with it, however, the check engine light came on for the first time yesterday. I pulled the codes and there were 3. P0700 (Trans Control System Malfunction) (x2) and P0740 (TCC Circuit Malfunction) (x1).

Seems to be driving ok. I drove it for about 30 minutes after clearing the codes and it didn't return. Is there a problem, or was it just a fluke?

Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

could be a fluke or a sign of more serious things to come. check your trans fluid and be sure the level is good and the fluid is nice and red/pink in color. it should not be burnt looking or a have a burnt smell to it.

if you haven't had it changed since you have owned the trep and your mileage is 60k+, i would recomend getting the fluid and filter changed. not a flush, but a complete pan drop where they switch the filter followed by a COMPLETE fluid change.

diagnostics for a P0740 is check fluid level. if good, check the valve body. if good, replace the solenoid/pressure switch assembly and/or replace torque converter.

good luck and keep an eye on things. if it feels like it is starting to shift differently--up or down-- get things checked out. better safe than sorry...

Update

Well, my wife took the car into the shop for an oil change and a tire. She told him about the check engine light coming on and gave him the codes (P0700 & P0740). He said he would check it out.

He said that the fluid levels were fine and they looked nice and clean.

The check engine light stayed off for about 2 weeks, but is now back on again. I pulled the codes and they are the same (P0700 Trans Control Sys Malfunction & P0740 TCC Circuit Malfunction).

How can I diagnose the problem myself? Any suggestions?

fluid was good so this seems to be pointing to a valve body or the pressure switch inside the trans. these are not too hard to replace if you have some mechanic skills. if not, prepared to get raped at a tranny shop. seriously, they will tell you that you need a rebuild for plenty o cash. try to find a mechanic you can trust and see what they can do for you. good luck...

Hello Everyone. I have three errors: P0138 P0441 and P0456... I see what the manual says about them, but wanted to ask you for some hints what should I check first (and how)...thanks!
