2.7 engine removal
 

ok, I just about got my 2.7 ready to pull but I can't find any place to attach a chain to lift on. any ideas? the little bolts that hold the intake to the heads definitely won't cut it. theres no bolt holes on the back of the heads. I can find ok spots on the front but nothing to the back. what are you experts doing for lift points?

I was really hoping to get some help with this. I spent several hours trying to come up with suitable lifting points. I pulled both exhaust manifolds and tried using holes that the manifold bolts to the head. I ended up breaking the bolts I used. there's gotta be someone out there that has removed a 2.7 willing to give any advice as to how they pulled the engine????

still no one has ever pulled one of these engines? I'm going to quit on this car and finish pulling my stratus trans. uhg everything goes to hell at the same time :(

there are NO threads on the back of the head!! thats were I started and after over an hour of looking etc ( I even borrowed a bore scope to look back there) I posted for help!!! I sell if I can post a picture using the scope and capturing a picture

I already have a tool like that called an engine tilter. it has a big bolt running parallel to the motor. I can turn a crank to change the position of the loop that attaches to a cherry picker so I can change the angle on the motor for easier installation/removal

isn't there anyone on here that actually pulled one of these motors?

i use a 2 sling straps around each exhaust manifold

No way, how? Did you remove the heat shields? I cant get them off. and I don't have enough clearance to fit my lift chain through there. I really don't want to pull the exhaust manifolds But why didn't recommend that method instead of the service manual pictures first?

cause the manual is HOW its SUPPOSED to be done. and the method I use is pobably highly unorthodox

and you had mentioned you had already pulled the exhaust mnifolds (where you broke a bolt) So as far as I knew this engine is without manifolds

I still need a spreader bar to keep the slings from pressing on the valve covers too hard
If you cant get your shields off
slip knot them around the bells of manifold where the pipes bolt to them (this will be a lil less stable tho)

I do remove the heatshields (cherrying the bolts help alot to get em off) half the time they are about ready to fall off anyways

the last 2.7 i pulled was in a sebring convertible (trans stayed just swapped engine)
It was damn tight!

I've decided to just junk the whole car. It's becomming aparent that people really don't fix these things based on all of them in the junkyard and for sale with bad motors. I meant to say I pulled the intake. On any other v-engine you pull the carb or throttle body or upper plenunm and get a nice spot to bolt the lifting device. These motors are such crap, fricken Chrysler should have included a tow-bar to make it easier to junk

I'm really surprised there isn't an abundance of experience of how to remove these engines. I finally came up with a solution... thanks anyway :(
