Default 2001 transmission question

This is the first neon with a auto transmission i've ever drove so I might not have a problem.

(example) When I let off gas @2500 rpm (coast) and go back to reestablishing
my rpm, I get a 200 rpm spike momentarily....feels almost like a slip. Other than that it seems to shift just fine.

1. 180K
2. no codes
3. good chance tranny fluid never been changed

Thanks, Pat

There are 2 adjustment spots. the step down band under battery tray and the 2nd one is inside the tranny. You have to drop the pan like changing the fluid. I have steps and torque info from Haynes if you want it. Also, you said slip. The torque converter might be going out. Try to get help from someone who knows auto trans.

Thanks for the response....I'm gonna take a close look at the shift lever and throttle lever under the tray. You got me thinking, might be something as simple as a little binding on that throttle lever. Anyway it won't hurt to change fluid and filter either.

I had to detach the shift cable from the tranny under the battery tray when I replaced the transmission mount (automatic). I did notice the collar had a plastic ring around it and it had cracks in it. It didn't fall apart so I just slipped it back on.
For 2000/01 the kick down under battery tray. Loosen lock nut and kick down. Torque kick down to 72 inch lbs then back off 2 1/4 turns. Tighten lock nut to 35 inch lbs.
Low reverse band inside tranny 41 inch lbs then back off 3 1/2 turns. Locking nut is 125 inch lbs. You can email be sbhawaiian@yahoo.com for a pic from the manual. If nothing else do replace the trans fluid and filter to inspect trans.
