Gauge Cluster

Hey guys, my wife's 2000 neon se auto doesn't have a tach obviously. I was wondering if I could swap in a gauge cluster that does have a tach and it be a direct swap? Would the tach work w/ the new cluster even though the one thats in it now doesn't have one? I just like to know what rpm it's at. Thanks

From what I have read you can swap one out from another neon but you need some sort of adapter since the car didnt come with a tahc in the first place.

You shouldn't need a tach driver for factory gauges.

Ah, hmm.

If you get a cluster with a tac it will swap easily, just take out the old and replace with the new. I have done this on my 2000 no problems.

I've done it in mine. went from the black face, no-tach to the SXT version, white face gauges with tach.
It is basically "plug and play"... really...there is just a plug on the back of the cluster that plugs in when u install it. and the tach wiring is already there. took me about 10 to 15 minutes to swap it.

Biggest deal with this swap is that the digital mileage stays with the cluster...so u need to find one with at leeast mileage close to what u got

the one I put in had about 12k less mileage. I took it to my regular Dodge dealer for an oil change and he kept looking confused that I had less mileage now, than the last time I brought it in!
I just told him I (had to?) replace the gauge cluster...and he just said, "Oh, ok...I'll just note down the new mileage."

Which years swap? I have a 00 and the one I'm looking at on ebay is from an 02.

I don't think it would matter, not positive however, but the bigger differences are between the 00-02 and 03-05, so I'd think you would be safe.

So I swapped the non-tach cluster in my 04 neon SE with a tach one from a 2000 neon es.

It works but now I don't have the parking brake reminder beep :(.
