oil soaked plugs

so i decided to check the plugs for the first time since i bought the car and found out that the threading on plugs 2 & 4 are saturated with oil. i'm not burning and oil so i'm thinking it's a valve issue. any thoughts?

It's probably your spark plug tubes.

I actually got this from another person on this forum but if you take a big enough socket and place it at the top of the tube and gently tap on it with a rubber hammer you'll force the tube down, it's a temporary fix but it should help with the diagnosis.

awesome i'll try it tomorrow.. is there any way to get a plug out if you can't see the part the socket fits around?

The same way you remove a plug any other time...

nope, when i look down the spark plug tube i can see the part on 1,2&4 plugs but not 3 and the socket just spins around #3.

sounds like you need to pull your head off and pull that tube....that the tube your having problems with also or is it a different tube? I would go to a parts store and see how much it will set you back on just replacing all 4 since your going to need to be there any way for a new head gasket just to save money and try to get rid of problems down the road

I get what you are saying now, I think.

If there is nothing to get a socket to fit on, you'd have to remove the valve cover and spark plug tubes and use a pair of pliers to get it out.

ok.. any idea of how much of a pain it would be to rebuild the head?

darthroush 04-04-2011 06:04 PM

Why do you need to rebuild the head?

buddhaman 04-04-2011 06:38 PM

for s&g's mainly.. if i have to replace a couple valves i'd rather just do the whole thing
